|Macomb Ukulele Festival||
The 2nd Macomb Ukulele Festival, Saturday, June 6 2015. Special guest ukulele stylist and music educator, Kimo Hussey. Renowned for his smooth style, Kimo kicks off his Summer 2015 mainland tour in Macomb, Illinois teaching two workshops and performing Saturday evening in concert. Workshop #1, 90 minutes in length, focuses on developing left hand techniques. Workshop #2, another 90 minutes, focuses on developing right hand techniques. Purchase tickets for either workshop and the concert singly or purchase the best deal all included festival ticket.
Kimo in concert
The festival features an evening performance at 7:00 by renowned musician Kimo Hussey. Enjoy two sets of the both traditional Hawaiian music as well as his instrumental interpretation of America’s well known songs.
Tickets for the concert at $10. Seating is limited and advance tickets recommended. A tickets for the concert is included in the full festival ticket package. The doors open at 6:00 pm for a Hapa Haole Hour with a cash bar provided by The Sports Corner @124.
Command the Fret Board 12:30 to 2:00 pm
The Left Hand: Kimo will share the “big picture” on left hand techniques, identifying the chords used to play 99.9 of the well-known and loved songs. Major, minor and 7th fingerings on C, D, E, F, G, A, Bb, and B are highlighted along with moveable chord shapes positions. Chord diagrams that will be used in this workshop are available for download at ukulelemacomb.com.
Rhythm and Style 3:00 to 4:30 pm
The Right Hand: Kimo explores right hand style development and is designed to be complimentary to the left hand workshop. While both right and left hands always operate in tandem when playing the ukulele, this workshop will highlight right hand technique.
All festival activities will be held at the Western Illinois Museum unless otherwise noted.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Kimo Hussey has numerous recordings and authored an award –winning Hawaiian songbook. Renowned for his smooth style, he has reached millions through his You Tube video classes, as well as performed and taught workshops all over the world. He has served as a director of the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii, previously chaired the board of a non-profit organization specializing in clinical music therapy, and was the board chairman and founder of the Pacific Music Foundation, a non-profit organization specializing in Hawaiian music. Since 2009, Ukulele Macomb has been teaching all ages to play the ukulele with workshops and two weekly jam sessions. Ukulele Macomb has become a popular musical group in the area with many of its members learning to play the ukulele in this workshop. The group has created a community that supports all levels of skill and encourages people to enjoy playing music together. They provide entertainment to the community performing for events, organizations and area assisted living centers.
